Wall to wall grey skies, the occasional downpour and northerly wind makes it hard to believe that warm weather is imminent. But if the man on TV with the giant map is to be believed, it is indeed on its way. With that in mind, as we start to bury our coats under the bed and replace them with last year’s summer wears, it’s only natural to want to add new pieces to your seasonal wardrobe.
To make your search easier, I’ve whittled down some of the finest shirts that this season has to offer. Just keep some money back for a 99 with a flake.
YMC – Mitchum Cotton Sashiko Stitch Shirt
YMC consistently produce top quality shirts and this year is no exception. This piece is mellow in comparison to others this season but packs a punch when it comes to detail. Using the Japanese Sashiko Stitch all over creates a lovely texture, and the muted red make it a super stylish piece.
ARKET – Short-Sleeved Linen Shirt
ARKET’s simplicity and fit makes all of their items firm favourites, and this season’s shirt game plays right into that. We all know that linen and warm weather are a match made in heaven and ARKET have produced a belter. This boxy number has been cut from plain weave linen with an organic texture. Wear on its own, or layered over vest or t-shirt and you’re good to go.
Zara – Geometric Print Shirt
Zara love a printed shirt and it seems they get stronger with every season. The relaxed fit of this shirt make it feel light and airy for those hot days, all whilst sporting the summer favourite, a camp collar. The all-over abstract print makes it a perfect day-to-night transitional piece; paired with white trousers and trainers it will take you from the picnic in the park to a pint in the local.
H&M – Blue & White Striped Shirt
Think Bananas in Pyjamas, think 1950s ice cream man, think H&M. This shirt keeps it classic with a turn-down collar, yoke at the back and a chest pocket. Its regular fit allows for plenty of room and movement, it’s everything you would want out of a summer shirt.
Les Basics – Le Vacation Shirt
Les Basics have thrown everything into this shirt and it does not disappoint in the slightest. It is cut from 100% cotton seersucker, which runs horizontally through the body and vertically across the pockets. The regular fit keeps it breathable and light.Throw this over a white t-shirt for a contrast in colour and texture, and you’re sorted.
Mango – Linen Knit Shirt
The rich khaki shade of this linen piece from Mango is beautifully on-trend for the upcoming summer season. Whilst the colour is smart, the easy bowling collar keeps it cool and casual. This is surely a fantastic and effortless piece to keep you looking well put-together at all of your summer barbecues.
