Mauritius is a destination that effortlessly combines tropical beauty, exceptional hospitality and adventure. With its turquoise lagoons, white sandy beaches and lush landscapes, it offers everything you could want from an Indian Ocean escape. During our visit, we stayed at Shandrani Beachcomber Resort & Spa, a beautiful four-star resort situated on a private peninsula along the island’s south-eastern coastline.
Surrounded by three beaches and overlooking the protected waters of Blue Bay Marine Park, Shandrani offers a wonderful combination of relaxation, dining and outdoor activities. From our Bay View Room to memorable restaurant experiences, a couples massage and exploring the surrounding villages by bicycle, our stay offered a genuine taste of Mauritian island life.
Our Stay in the Bay View Room
We stayed in one of the resort’s Bay View Rooms, located within Shandrani for 2, an adults-only section designed specifically for couples seeking a peaceful retreat.
The accommodation provides plenty of space, with a king-size bed, contemporary bathroom and beautiful views overlooking the bay.
The room’s relaxed, airy atmosphere complements the surrounding tropical scenery, creating an inviting space to return to after a day exploring the resort.
One of the biggest attractions of this particular room category is access to the dedicated adults-only facilities, including a private beach area, restaurant and beachfront bar.
For couples wanting additional privacy without sacrificing the activities and atmosphere of a larger resort, it is an appealing option.
Dining at Serendipity and Le Sirius
Dining was another memorable part of our stay, with two restaurants offering different experiences.
Our first evening included dinner at Serendipity, the resort’s elegant adults-only restaurant. Its contemporary surroundings and carefully curated set menu make it an attractive choice for couples looking for a more intimate dining experience.
The restaurant brings together international influences with the relaxed atmosphere of Mauritius, providing a welcome opportunity to enjoy a leisurely evening.
We also visited Le Sirius, a more secluded dining spot within the resort. Its setting offers a different atmosphere from the main restaurant areas, making it another enjoyable option for dinner.
Having several restaurants available throughout the property adds welcome variety, particularly during a longer stay when trying somewhere different each evening becomes part of the holiday itself.
A Relaxing Couples Massage at the Spa
No tropical holiday would be complete without some relaxation, and our couples massage at the Beachcomber Spa was another highlight.
Set within the resort’s tropical surroundings, the spa provides a peaceful escape from the sunshine and activities outside.
Enjoying a massage together was the perfect opportunity to slow down and dedicate some time to relaxation.
The spa offers a selection of treatments, alongside wellness facilities designed to help guests unwind. Whether visiting for a single massage or incorporating several treatments into your holiday, it adds another dimension to the Shandrani experience.
For couples staying at the resort, booking a treatment together is certainly worth considering.
Water-Skiing on the Indian Ocean
While relaxation is an important part of any Mauritius holiday, Shandrani is particularly well suited to those who enjoy staying active.
One of our favourite experiences was trying water-skiing directly from the resort’s beach.
With the warm Indian Ocean surrounding the peninsula, it is a fantastic setting for getting out on the water and experiencing something different.
Water-skiing is one of several activities offered by the resort, alongside kayaking, sailing, windsurfing and snorkelling.
The convenience of having these activities available without needing to travel elsewhere is a real advantage.
Whether you are experienced on the water or looking to try something new, Shandrani provides plenty of opportunities to add a little adventure to your holiday.
Cycling to the Local Market in Mahébourg
Another memorable experience was leaving the resort behind for a bicycle ride towards the nearby town of Mahébourg.
While Shandrani offers almost everything you could need during your stay, exploring the surrounding area provides a wonderful opportunity to discover authentic Mauritian life.
Our cycle ride took us away from the beaches and through local communities before reaching the marketplace.
Mahébourg is known for its traditional market, where visitors can discover fresh produce, local delicacies, clothing and souvenirs.
It was an enjoyable contrast to the relaxed atmosphere of the resort and an opportunity to experience a different side of Mauritius.
For anyone staying at Shandrani, we would recommend making time for this excursion, particularly if you enjoy combining outdoor activities with local culture.
Our Verdict: Is Shandrani Beachcomber Worth Visiting?
What makes Shandrani Beachcomber particularly appealing is the balance it strikes between relaxation and adventure.
The Bay View Room provides a peaceful retreat, while the resort’s restaurants, spa facilities and extensive selection of water sports ensure there is always something to experience.
For us, the combination of dining at Serendipity and Le Sirius, enjoying a couples massage, trying water-skiing and cycling into Mahébourg made the stay especially memorable.
Its beautiful location overlooking Blue Bay Marine Park is another major attraction, offering spectacular scenery without sacrificing convenience or comfort.
Whether planning a romantic escape, an active holiday or simply looking to experience the beauty of Mauritius, Shandrani Beachcomber offers an excellent base.
We particularly enjoyed being able to combine the comforts of the resort with opportunities to explore the island beyond it.
