Founded in 1969, Quiksilver Original Boardshorts was effectively born out of a problem. The problem was raised by a group of surfers who were tired of wearing rugby shorts, which neither fit well nor suited the activity. It is upon this premise of innovation as a means to finding solutions that the brand was initially build and indeed still runs today.
The SS14 Quiksilver Original Boardshorts collection has just dropped exclusively at Urban Outfitters. As ever, the surfwear giant offers bold designs that focus on high quality and reliable functionality. This season sees checks and bright colours in the label’s signature cuts. We must remember that it was none other than Quiksilver that gave the world iconic boardshort cuts, The Yoke (the first tailored waistband), The Scallop (a reference to the tapered hemline) and The Arch. All of these became blueprints for swimwear and fully immersed the brand within surf culture.
With the latest collection, Quiksilver nods to its heritage but also to its legacy. Inherently ambitious, this is a company that has demonstrated a strong understanding of the sport but also a desire to change and revolutionise. As far as those over at Quiksilver are concerned, it is about “being creative and wanting the best in and out of the water”.
