Nanamica continues its exploration of understated design and technical performance with its latest collaboration with Japanese footwear specialist Regal Shoe & Co. For their fourth project together, the two brands have created the GORE-TEX Plain Toe Shoes, a refined leather shoe that quietly disguises serious all-weather credentials.

Launching on 25 September 2026, the new silhouette brings together the traditional appearance of a classic lace-up with the weather protection and comfort more commonly associated with technical footwear.
It is an approach that feels particularly well suited to Nanamica. The Japanese brand has long specialised in clothing that sits somewhere between contemporary menswear, outdoor functionality and everyday utility, often incorporating performance fabrics without allowing them to dominate the overall aesthetic.
For its latest collaboration, that philosophy has been applied to one of the most timeless styles in a man’s footwear rotation.
Classic Leather Meets GORE-TEX
At first glance, the Nanamica x Regal Shoe & Co. GORE-TEX Plain Toe Shoes could easily pass for a traditional pair of leather shoes. The silhouette is deliberately clean, with minimal detailing and a simple closed-lace construction creating a smart, versatile profile.

Look beneath the surface, however, and the technical elements begin to emerge.
A waterproof and breathable GORE-TEX membrane sits within the construction, helping protect the feet against wet conditions while maintaining breathability. That makes the shoes particularly useful for autumn and winter, when traditional leather footwear can sometimes struggle against unpredictable weather.
The upper is constructed from cowhide tanned by Sanyo Leather in Japan, adding another distinctly Japanese element to the collaboration. Rather than creating something overly polished or formal, Nanamica and Regal Shoe & Co. have focused on balancing premium materials with a more relaxed approach to everyday footwear.
Built for Everyday Comfort
Comfort also plays an important role in the design.
The shape of the shoe has been developed around the natural contours of the foot, with a roomier fit providing additional space around the toes. The result is intended to deliver a relaxed, almost barefoot sensation despite the shoe’s comparatively traditional appearance.

This is combined with a lightweight and flexible stitchdown construction, helping give the GORE-TEX Plain Toe Shoes a softer feel underfoot.
Nanamica compares the sensation to wearing a deck sneaker, which neatly sums up the thinking behind the collaboration. Visually, this is a shoe capable of working alongside tailored trousers, chinos or relaxed denim, but its construction has been designed to provide considerably more flexibility than a conventional dress shoe.
It makes the silhouette particularly relevant as men’s wardrobes continue to become less rigid. The distinction between formal and casual footwear has softened considerably, creating space for shoes that can provide the smarter appearance of traditional leather footwear without sacrificing sneaker-like comfort.
Two Understated Colourways
Nanamica is releasing the GORE-TEX Plain Toe Shoes in two versatile colour options, each offering a slightly different interpretation of the design.
The Navy version uses a textured velour upper contrasted against white stitching and a white sole. It is the more casual of the two, with the lighter detailing emphasising the shoe’s deck-inspired construction.
The Black edition takes a cleaner and more understated approach, combining smooth leather with tonal detailing. The result is considerably more discreet and provides an easy alternative to conventional black leather shoes.

Both demonstrate the versatility at the heart of the collaboration. Rather than producing footwear specifically for the office, outdoors or weekend, Nanamica and Regal Shoe & Co. have created something capable of moving comfortably between all three.
The Nanamica x Regal Shoe & Co. GORE-TEX Plain Toe Shoes (S26FS082) are priced at €490 / $470 and will launch on 25 September 2026 through Nanamica stores and online.
For anyone looking to bridge the gap between classic men’s footwear and modern technical performance, this latest Japanese collaboration makes a compelling case for leaving traditional dress shoes behind when the weather turns.
