If we were to look back at all of the major menswear trends of 2014, Scandi style would have to be one of the biggest of the year. For AW14, Swedish brand Filippa K has produced a menswear collection that is minimalist in its aesthetic, and full of modem men’s essentials. These include high quality knitwear, tailoring and footwear, which are the very essence of Scandinavian cool.
The brand is all about keeping things clean and simple. Garments are season less and timeless and the concept is to allow shoppers to collect and build on essential pieces to create a wardrobe where you can easily combine new pieces that reflect the changing mood of fashion.
The autumn line presents a collection that is the perfect blend of functional and minimal. Tailoring is smart and urban with a sharp edge, focused on tonal dressing. The season’s signature look is tonal grey ranging from light to dark.
The modernity of the collection comes with the sharp and well-tailored suits in light flannel, worn with softly washed poplin shirts or a more casual wool mix long t-shirt and urban sneakers.
As with many good menswear collections, it is the subtle details that are most impressive. Here they come via the form of tonal patterns and checks in grey, brown, navy and black, which add an eclectic touch to a dominantly minimalist line.
Whilst flat greys and navy dominate the collection, colour pops like rich browns and deep ochra yellow are very welcome indeed.
