Atelier Scotch, a diffusion line of Amsterdam-based fashion brand Scotch & Soda dedicated to contemporary men’s tailoring, has just launched its latest collection for Spring/Summer 2015.
A brand built on value and quality, Atelier Scotch has continued its focus on stylish formalwear by building the latest collection around two main themes: ‘Oxford Springs’ and ‘Eclectic Memories’.
These themes translate into a collection influenced by the ideas of travel and exploration. The tailored pieces have a softer edge to them (mirroring those we saw on runways during the SS15 show season last year) but with a range of technical details and references, combined with light summer fabrics.
The references to springtime in Oxford come from the striped tailored trousers, styled with white shirts and a bleached seersucker blazer. There is, however, a little bit of an edge to the collection which comes from the wax finishes on the outerwear, taped inner-seams and one standout reversible bomber jacket, all of which contrast well with the textured knitwear and the softer suit styles.
One highlight, which encapsulates the work and design details that go into the whole collection, is the use of suit and blazer fabrics, which have come from an Italian mill archive and are mixed with other fabrics like stretch nylon to create a practical but comfortable collection. The blend of age and youth gives the collection its sophistication but also its energy.
There is undeniably a sense of fun to this collection, which manifests itself in the polka dots, pinstripes, retro-inspired prints, ornaments and jacquards that adorn much of the collection. The short-suit is another sign of the optimistic attitude of the collection, and if Pharrell can wear one, so can you (just leave out the hat).
