After what felt like the longest winter in history, finally the days are getting longer and the weather is getting warmer. Summer is on its way and that means one thing: getting your flip-flops out. If you shudder at the thought of letting the world see your old, battered pair, cult footwear brand Teva could have a solution for you.
For Spring/Summer 2015, Teva are revisiting their roots and reimagining the classic Teva Originals for the modern market. First produced thirty years ago, the style has become iconic for its comfort, ease and style. Copies of it have appeared everywhere ever since.
The double Velcro strap, the durability and the comfort of them makes the style popular among everyone for holidays, but now Teva are aiming at making their footwear wearable all summer long.
Contemporary twists like metal embellishments update the style. Metallic colours and high-quality leather mean these styles are much more desirable (think of the metallic Burberry sandals Christopher Bailey showed for Spring/Summer 2013 and the vibrant block colours he showed for S/S 15) and particular focus has been put on styling them to show how they can be worn not just on the beach.
Styled with chinos and smart jackets, or with shorts and lightweight t-shirts, Teva want to highlight the versatility of the sandals and show how they can be inserted into any modern wardrobe easily, becoming a summer staple. The best bit is that they come in at about a tenth of the price of the Burberry replicas.
With a multitude of colour options on offer, it’s hard to come up with a reason to buy anything else. The only one I can think of is that if you prefer your sandals styled with socks, move along, and if, like me, you aren’t blessed with the tan of a TOWIE “star” then maybe stick to normal shoes for summer. No one wants to look at what look like cold turkey legs while they’re eating their lunch.
