If you are familiar with Scotch & Soda, you will know them for their cool European aesthetic, with simple menswear staples and to be created with quirky and detailed little twists. Fans of the brand will be thrilled to know that the Amsterdam based fashion brand has just launched its own take on modern tailoring with the Atelier Scotch line.
This new line has been created with a very specific gentleman in mind – he is one classy guy, a lover of travel, who places great emphasis on the quality of what he is wearing. This debut collection (which was launched at Pitti Uomo in Florence in January of this year) has had the team behind the collection look to style cities like London, Paris, Milan and New York for inspiration and the results are a cool, un-stiff look, dressed up but not comfortable. In short; sprezzatura. The brand has perfectly captured the ease of Italian dressing with this collection.
It is the attention to detail that makes this range stand out from many competitors. Fabrics and prints have been developed in house creating unusual mixtures of qualities such as micro and oversized checks in wool structures. Shirts have been rinsed and steamed so they feel softer, more voluminous but remain elegant. Fabric choices are also strong and autumn appropriate – cashmere, merino and lambswool have all been used in the range.
The finished collection is a combination of staples that stand out from the norm. Double breasted coats in wool and mohair look fantastic when worn with slim trousers. Smart and sartorial without ever being pretentious, this collection will suit many gents that, like us at MFM like to always look good, without looking like we are trying at all.
