Introducing The New Ralph Lauren RL Automotive Timepieces
At MFM we’re big fans of watches and the elegance they bring, and we’re always on the hunt for new timepieces to showcase. Ralph Lauren are a key brand in the watch marketplace, and they’re expanding their Automotive collection with five new watches.
The inspiration for the collection comes from Ralph Lauren’s own 1938 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic Coupe.
‘I’ve always been inspired by automotive design — the materials, the lines, but also the power and functionality. Cars are like art — moving art — an accomplishment in mechanics and precision.’ — Ralph Lauren
The main highlight of the new collection is the Ralph Lauren RL Automotive Skeleton, the brand’s first open-worked timepiece. In fact the inspiration from the automotive world features throughout the entire collection. From the Amboyna burl wood bezel to the black alligator strap reminiscent of the interiors of Mr. Lauren’s Bugatti. This timepiece really is elegant, and the Swiss mechanical movement symbolising the motor itself is a great touch.
The RL Automative Skeleton is presented in a case measuring 44.8mm by 11.20mm and is powered by a renowned IWC hand-wound mechanical movement that has been customized by Val Fleurier for Ralph Lauren.
Small details again really take this watch to the next level, with the bridges of the movement being blackened to reflect the Bugatti-inspired aesthetics being just one example.
Craftsmanship At It’s Finest
When we look to showcase anything we always look at the finer details and the craftsmanship behind the collection. The case of the RL Automotive Skeleton is crafted in black gunmetal steel, and completed with a satiny matte finish.
As envisioned by Ralph Lauren, the Automotive collection masterfully bridges the automotive and horological worlds and captures his love of fine watchmaking and things made by hand
