Menswear trends tend to move relatively slowly. The suit, the overcoat, the Oxford shoe will always be staples of a modern man’s wardrobe. However, it is only recently that sneakers have become part of that group where the word “essential” can be applied. Recent catwalk trends in sportswear and streetwear (see Givenchy, Saint Laurent and Lanvin) have led to even the most esteemed of designers and fashion powerhouses like Tom Ford and Valentino joining the market.
To really stand out from the sneaker crowd, you need to go down the luxury route and with that in mind, take a look at the new collection from Buttero. Founded in 1974, Buttero set out with the mission to create the best riding boots in the world. Created in Tuscany, the brand is known for a passion in creating authentic and traditional footwear for men and women. The new collection for autumn 2014 follows the aforementioned trends in luxury sneakers with a raw and elegant range created in pony hair.
The brand’s famous Tanino style has been reimagined in two very cool and highly wearable styles. First up is the signature low top sneaker in midnight blue pony skin, leather toecap and tonal laces. Styled with printed trousers by the label, they would look just as good with clean selvedge denim and a white shirt.
If blue is not for you, take a look at the black offering – a slip on chukka sneaker which contrasts a black calf hair front panel with a full leather back panel. Whilst denim is always a faultless choice for such footwear, perhaps losing the socks would work better. As you know at MFM we’re all about bold, innovative looks and with Buttero you may just be able to do just that.
