So it’s sale time, you’ve got your pennies saved up and you’re ready to hit the shops. Spend away, right? Well, not exactly. By all means make the most of the end of season sales, but remember two things: One – Why is it in the sale? And two – Do I really need it? Sounds simple enough, but it’s the one area everyone slips up with. We rush out and grab the biggest bargain we can find, but is it really a bargain?

sale 1

Sale is the best time to build your wardrobe, not drop a silly amount of money on something just because it’s reduced. We would always recommend using the two times of the year we see massively discounted items to stock up on basics, classics and things that are going to last you a while. After all, are you attracted to that zebra print bomber jacket or are you attracted to the severely discounted price tag?

sale 2

It’s a very easy trap to fall into and it usually ends up with you spending a ton of money on something that at most you will wear a couple of times. The items you find that have been reduced massively are usually due to the fact they haven’t sold well all season – is this a reason to buy something?

Make a list of items you’d really like before sale starts, keep it on your phone and use this checklist as your guide when shopping during sale. This can help keep you on the straight and narrow and your eyes off the big discounts and onto what you actually need.

End of Season Sale

End of season sale can be a great time to grab some essentials at incredibly low prices, in particular at outlet stores/centres like Bicester Village and Gunwharf Quays, retailers like Reiss, Paul Smith, Gieves & Hawkes and countless others offer fantastic deals on essentials like suits, shirts and trousers. Things that are going to stay relevant and in your wardrobe for a long time.

Online

Online is another great way to shop with many high end online retailers offering designer items at regular high street prices. Websites like Matches and Mr. Porter have great offers and it could be that one time you can pick up a key piece for your wardrobe from a high end label at the same price you’d pay for a much lower quality, high street equivalent.

A Final Piece of Advice

We all love a good bargain, so sale is the best time of the year to capitalise on that. However, make sure that what you are purchasing is something that you are going to get plenty of use out of, and more importantly, something you actually like.
