October 20th saw the launch of Topman’s ‘Just Can’t Do Without You: The Only Coat You’ll Need’ campaign. This winter, the high-street menswear giant is seeking to reinvent the process of investing in a winter coat by creating a twelve piece range of overcoats to see anyone through the next few months of cold, wind and rain, but that can also be brought out again this time next year.

Speaking about the campaign, Gordon Richardson, Topman Creative Director, said: “It’s not very often in menswear that a single item becomes so desirable that it becomes almost impossible to live without.

“This winter it’s the wool overcoat. A big investment item but one that will see you through several winters such is its versatility and chic timelessness.” The campaign is all about finding the right coat for today’s modern man, and blending historical references with contemporary styling.

Twelve different styles make up the collection, each with a slim fit, ¾ length and made from various fabrics, all of which should stand up to the worst of the British weather with ease.

The styles range from the classic single-breasted three-button to belted trenches to double-breasted drop shoulders, each in a different or colour or pattern designed to enhance the individual style.

There is a traditional camel three-button wool overcoat, which stands out, as does a burgundy belted, trench and a grey houndstooth double-breasted, drop shoulder coat. For those who like something a little less conspicuous, the dark navy, charcoal and black styles offer a little bit more subtly and perhaps a little bit more versatility depending on your existing wardrobe.

These coats are designed to be versatile, and can be worn in the traditional way over formal wear or a suit, or else worn with a bit more of a contemporary edge, styled over knitwear, denim and battered trainers.

The versatility of the collection is essential to the strapline of the collection – you just can’t do without a good winter coat – and Topman have worked to create a coat for everyone. The coats in the collection start from £90 and are available in store and online.
