How to Wear Prints: The Streetwear Edit
With the creative spark in eccentric trends this year, there has been endless coverage throughout on clashing prints, bold colours and eclectic head-to-toe ensembles. Florals and graphics have led a huge trend following, with designers like Sibling challenging the boundaries of gender with glamorised streetwear.
It’s all well and good, these high concept trends making such a big impact on the direction of fashion this season but what about going back to the basics and breaking down the print trend say- on the street? So we say, if you’re looking for some style inspiration, you’ve come to the right place.
Last month our team at MFM attended the highly anticipated LCM’s fashion shows for SS15. Take a look at our trend overview from the shows … LCM: SS15 Get The Looks. Rubbing shoulders with celebs, fashionista’s and well-established blogger’s on the scene; there were some ace spectators at the event that we happily snapped.
Keeping Things Minimal
With such a high energy at LCM’s, unique personal style was apparent everywhere in sight. Particularly on the streets, there was such a cocktail of well-dressed men sporting casual togs, tailoring and quirky accessories. Keeping things to a bare minimum, some prints were instinctively chosen to highlight a low-key ensemble or simply add a pop of colour.
Printed accessories can be worn very sparingly, and this is a good tip if you’re not a big fan of the head-to-toe attire. Tying in camo prints or bright colours can work in your favour especially with grey and black-layered pieces. For a look a little smarter consider tailored sportswear; extremely versatile you will look and feel impressive. (With the added bonus of being comfortable as well). Likewise, a small scarf can add some desired interest to a smart jacket. Contrasting colours work well ,so if you’re wearing something dark opt for a bright and vice versa.
Making A Statement
For the braver extrovert in you, don’t look away next time you’re shopping if you see something a little more unusual. Prints are meant to be seen, and the beauty of this ongoing trend is that you can essentially wear pieces however you’d like.
Who says you can’t put on a suit and shirt with classic brogues and top it all off with a brilliantly bright jacket? This guy is completely in control of his eclectic style. The soft pinks and poignant green colours coiled in this coat, compliment his smart toned down bottom half.
A polka dot shirt and a mismatched tailored outfit, create a quirky impression with a subtle edge. If you like the look of this attire, we recommend you opt for a neutral suit in the summer months. Come autumn you can swap the jacket or trousers for something darker and this will provide you with more style options.
Making a big statement with a patterned jacket or shirt can generate a playful image, giving an alternative to standard tailored pieces. Who says being formal should be boring? Experiment with colours, prints and shirtsleeve lengths to create a look that’s personal and comfortable for you.
