Someone said to me the other day… “How do you become more attractive?”

At first, I thought there’s no way I could create a feature around increasing your attractiveness as a man but then I saw this image.

A before and after, taken on the same day.

It made me think, what steps can a man take to improve their attractiveness?

Looking back to the article I wrote on Calvin Harris, his personal transformation from a scrawny, bushy haired DJ to a record breaking Armani model is one we can learn from. In fact even my personal transformation, some may say I’ve improved a tiny bit with age.

So you might not be blessed with good looks, but what can you do to improve your attractiveness?

No time? Watch the video below.

1. Improve Your Hair & Grooming Routine

The first thing that you can do to improve your attractiveness is concentrate on your hair and your grooming routine. We’ve covered hairstyles a lot on MFM already, but making sure you have a hairstyle that suits your style and day to day lifestyle is hugely important.

Don’t just ignore how your hair looks, pay attention to it. Search online for some inspiration, find a hairstyle that’s easy to manage and then head to your Barbers for their advice.

I share more in the video below.

Alongside your hairstyle, you also want to pay attention to your skincare. If you’re not looking after your skin by applying a moisturiser daily, washing your face and even using an eye cream it’s going to affect how you look.

It doesn’t have to be hard, keep it simple. In fact you can follow this Simple Skincare Routine which takes less than 5 minutes a day.

2. Eat Healthier

There’s obviously a lot of benefits to eating healthier, but the main one is what you’re putting in your body is going to come out. What I mean by that is if you’re feeding yourself with crap, not only are you gonna feel crap, you’re going to look crap.

Focus on your nutrition and eat healthier. It’s going to improve how clear your skin is, how tired you look but it’s also going to make you feel better and feel a lot more confident within yourself.

3. Improve Your Smile

You don’t have to just improve your smile, it could just be a case of smiling more. A good smile increases your attractiveness.

If you walk into a room and you’re smiling, you’re gonna radiate more of a positive energy. People are going to want to speak with you, people are going to want to see you, but if you walk in with your head down facing the ground, you’re not going to give off a good vibe, so you want to be smiling more.

If you’re afraid to smile because your teeth are all messed up, or they’re not white then you need to do something about it. In a recent feature I showed you how I straightened my teeth with Invisalign. Since I’ve done that, I smile in a lot more photos, I smile a lot more in public and that’s helped with my overall appearance.

4. Dress Smarter

You will look a lot better in a suit than in a track suit, it’s as simple as that. But I’m not advising you to step away from your day-to-day style and wear a suit every single day, all I’m saying it dress smarter than the average.

If you’re heading out for an evening, make sure that you’re focusing on the formal elements of an outfit. You don’t have to overdo it, but choosing a pair of leather dress shoes over sneakers or a button down shirt instead of a t-shirt all make an impact on your attractiveness.

When planning an outfit ask yourself… “Is this too casual?” If the answer is yes, dress it up slightly.

5. Get In Shape

Let’s be honest, you can’t do much to physically change your face shape. Your ears, nose, eyes, chin… it can’t be improved unless you opt for cosmetic surgery, something I don’t really recommend. You can obviously improve your skin, your teeth and your hair but there isn’t a great deal you can do to your face.

Your body on the other hand can be changed. Are you in the best shape you can possibly be? Are you healthy?

Having a regular exercise routine in place and improving your physique will not only improve your attractiveness it will also help improve your overall style.

As an overweight guy you can of course improve your style, but when you’re leaner it makes it easier to find the clothing you want and it also means the clothing will fit you better.

Getting in shape will also help your confidence, when we’re unhealthy and out of shape it can make us doubt ourselves, but working out regularly will make you feel better about yourself.

6. Smell Good

This is a simple one, but something that a lot of men avoid. No one likes a man that smells, that’s obvious, but what can you do to improve your attractiveness through the way that you smell?

A good scent can create an emotional connection with someone. It can draw people towards you. If you’re in a bar talking to someone and they appreciate how you smell, they’re likely to compliment you on it and it will also help improve the connection. Sure, it isn’t the be all and end all (what you say and do is mostly what matters) but your scent can help.

Don’t walk out the door without thinking about how good you smell. It’s not just about fragrances, it’s about basic hygiene. Make sure you shower daily, you wash well, you take care of your dental hygiene but you also have a statement fragrance.

7. Wear A Statement Accessory

This is very similar to the last point, a statement accessory will draw attention towards you. Again we’re not overdoing it, hunting for attention through wearing a pink suit but a statement accessory can help you stand out from the crowd and create a subtle statement.

Of course, this one step alone isn’t going to improve your attractiveness (you want to apply all the other steps) but a pop of colour or pattern through an accessory you wear can make a positive impression.

It could be a nice watch, a pocket square, a tie, a bracelet, ring or even a hat. You want to wear an accessory that creates a statement and that’s going to start a conversation.

8. Be Confident

Most of this article so far has been about improving your physical appearance, but working on your internal game is easilyt o most important element.

I remember when I first started improving my appearance through the way that I dressed. I didn’t work on myself internally, I still wasn’t confident and improving my style alone only had a small effect. You’ll get compliments but the feeling is short lived and you go out looking for more compliments.

If you’re not confident, it isn’t an attractive trait. People like people who radiate confidence. You need to be happy within yourself, you need to make sure that you’re not always worrying about what people think of you.

how to be confident

You’re always your own worst critic, so making sure that you’re always working internally improving how you feel (accepting yourself and dealing with fear and anxiety) will improve your attractiveness.

Here’s how important confidence is…

If I walk into a room wearing a nice suit with a statement accessory on, smelling good, with my grooming on point and my hair on point, and I walk into the room and I just stand in the corner with my head down on my phone… how will I be perceived?

But at the same time, if I’m wearing something more casual, my hair’s a little bit of a mess, I’m slightly overweight but I walk in confidently, my posture strong and I walk in smiling as I speak to people… I’m going to showcase more attractiveness just through the confidence I posess.

Accept yourself. Be happy with who you are.

Confidence is easily the most important step out of all of these.
