Men’s Fashion Week seems to have passed us by in such haste that we could only wish for its return. The textures, the hues, the accessories; so many aspects of each collection have us longing, and quite honestly, salivating for the arrival of AW13.
Despite a bounty of luscious fall fashion heading our way, one key trend has us particularly enticed at Mens Fashion Magazine – the quite obvious streak of delectable Claret.
While we have seen this darkened hue play its piece on the catwalk throughout 2012, it is continuing to maintain a steady, and almost abundant, role this coming season. We saw the occasional burst of bright fuchsias and heavy mustards walk onto the scene, but we are partial to the dark succulent reds that have dominated these European catwalks. Whether a full-blown brilliance of a head-to-toe look (Alexander McQueen), or a mix-and-match styled ensemble (Prada), we cannot peel our eyes from the sexualized rigour that is this Claret trend.
Oxblood Threads
From Gingham cuffed shirts to cable knit button downs, this tantalizing hue is apparent across all fall pieces. While we have seen several head-to-toe looks prance the runway, consider introducing this wine-soaked trend into your wardrobe by pairing with other colour contenders. A chocolate-toned trouser will lend itself perfectly to this warm red shade if paired with a merlot cable knit cardigan. For your somewhat more adventurous persona, consider layering an oxblood red blazer with a teal shirt or trouser. This colour combination has proven its runway worth this season, so avoid hesitating the marriage of that Claret velveteen luxury piece with a brighter, yet rich, hue.
Merlot- Stained Footprints
Perhaps one of the most prominent features to consider, footwear will always be a key factor to consider in any ensemble. From casual attire to black tie dress, a shoe can make or break any outfit. Try pairing a claret velveteen smoking slipper with a relaxed dress trouser to add a splash of red to your look. You can also complete a head-to-toe maroon vision with a burgundy brogue. Not only is this shoe style still one of the men’s top trends this season, but a dark red leather finish will elevate your look to another level. Take a look at some of the pieces below for wardrobe inspiration.
Tantalising Accessories
It is not a secret that accessories may be one of our favourite elements of piecing together an outfit. It’s an opportunity to elevate what you already have to create something much more iconic. This opportunity lends itself perfectly to the notion of spicing up a casual outfit with splashes of claret as oppose to full pieces. Consider a dark wool suit with a seductive streak of merlot happily playing its piece as the tie. In the same way, a pocket square can add its own maroon flare to your more debonair ensemble. When it comes to wrapping up, consider playing on this claret trend by opting for a deep red scarf or merino wool gloves.
While wine is delicious on our lips, it can be even more appetizing on our body. If you haven’t yet invested in this luscious trend, consider doing so and let us know what know what you think of it in the comments box below.
